Cosmos Chan Community (CCC), a Non-Profit Society established by Chan Master Beishi Guohan, is the World Center of Global Patriarch/Matriarch Chan Communities founded in the spirit of “an Heir to Patriarch and a Master of Posterity”. It is for the benefit of all human beings by way of deeply and widely popularizing the Patriarch/Matriarch Chan Dharma of Chinese Chan Buddhism all over the world.
The vision of Cosmos Chan Community lies in integrating the all-inclusiveness of the Patriarch/Matriarch Chan Dharma of all Chan Patriarchs and Masters, making offerings with this Chan Dharma to all human beings (future Buddhas) in the global village for their insight into self-nature, and meanwhile building up a pure land on this planet Earth. All Chan practitioners should realize their own Mind that its essence is apart from nihilism and permanence, and its nature is beyond impurity and purity. When it is used to the full capacity, its function is infinite and free from the limits of consciousness. … There is no Way to be cultivated and no Dharma to be realized here. The Patriarch/Matriarch Chan Dharma is the Dharma Gate of the Mind Ground, which is based on the Sutra that says ‘The Mind of Straightforwardness is the Site of (attaining) the Way, the Pure Land.’ Therefore, the foundation of the Pure Land on Earth Movement distributed all over the world rests with ‘Once the minds of human beings are pure, then their behaviors are pure, and the environment and the world they see are also pure.’ Patriarch Sheng Yen
What is (Patriarch/Matriarch) Chan? Ordinary Mind is (Patriarch/Matriarch) Chan. Chan practitioners merely have to live their ordinary life with the Ordinary Mind. That is to say, if they can only genuinely maintain the ‘Ordinary Mind of Ultimate Pure Awareness’ at the very moment in all daily activities, then all their experiences of ordinary life are (Patriarch/Matriarch) Chan. In his 108 Adages of Wisdom, Our Patriarch Sheng Yen said, “A passing boat leaves no trace upon the waters; a bird’s flight leaves no trace in the sky. When fleeting success, failure, gain, or loss leaves no trace upon the mind, the great wisdom of emancipation has been manifested.” In fact, we are not only good neighbors in the global village, but also all sons and daughters born of the same Mother Universe. We are not just good friends to one another, but basically brothers and sisters in a great Cosmic Family. Therefore, Cosmos Chan Community, which has been founded in accordance with the causes and conditions related to all sentient beings of this Cosmic Family, aims at the application of the inclusive Patriarch/Matriarch Chan Dharma to humankind on earth for their spontaneous manifestation of great wisdom of emancipation. Additionally, we cherish an ever-lasting hope that the Buddha’s pure land will be established for the sake of humankind.
